The following are some of the major steps embarked by bigger concerns when coming to Manpower Planning:-
- Review the manpower requirements either basing on existing company’s plans or on basis of projection of trends in the economic environment and development in the industry, henceforth, conduct a forecasting of future manpower both in term of quantity(number of headcount) and quality of staff.
- Conduct a stock count to see the present company’s headcount and then assess and identify whether these human resources are being used optimally
- Anticipate manpower problems by projecting present resources into the future and comparing them with the forecast requirements to determine the adequacy, whether in term of number or quality
- Planning the necessary programmes whether recruitment, selection, training, development, utilization, transfer, promotion, motivation and compensation to ensure that future manpower requirements of the industry are properly met
