Faster Route To Finish CAT

In Malaysia, the Education Ministry has announced that students who scored 1A and 2A in Principles of Accounting at the recent SPM examinations are entitled for exemptions for the Certified Accounting Technician(CAT) paper.

CAT is a foundation programme for the ACCA Professional Qualification. The programme provides a basic foundation in accountancy, even for those without accounting background. CAT is a smat option for those who want to pursue the ACCA Professional Accounting Qualification.

Students who scored 1A and 2A in Principles of Accounting get exemption for CAT paper T1 Recording Financial Transactions. With these exemptions, SPM students can complete their CAT and ACCA qualifications much earlier as the SPM syllabus is recognized by international standards. There are nine papers to be completed for CAT qualification.

For experts who consider that the word certified (for CAT) is a misnomer as the examination standards at the final stage of the CAT qualification is in fact comparabe to the first year of a UK Bachelors Degree Programme.

Students who wish to take advantge of this exemption can register at the ACCA Malaysia office or ACCA Approved Learning Partners with the following documents:

  • a copy of SPM results slip
  • a copy of identity card ( on a A4 sized paper)
  • CAT registration form(registration form can be obtained from ACCA Malaysia or ACCA Approvd Learning Partners)
  • exemption fees waiver form( request from ACCA Malaysia)
